Terms of Service

Company & Ownership Information

Grasp News is owned and operated by James Wheatley, operating as a Sole Trader established in the United Kingdom.

1. Service Description & Content

Grasp News is an AI-powered news aggregation service. We do not own the rights to the original news articles processed by our platform. All content is generated by extracting factual statements from publicly available RSS feeds.

  • AI Hallucinations: While we employ strict prompting to prevent the AI from generating false information, Large Language Models can occasionally hallucinate. We provide this information on an "AS IS" basis and are not liable for any inaccuracies in the summarized facts.
  • Intellectual Property: While we do not claim ownership of the aggregated news content, Grasp News retains all rights, title, and interest in and to our platform, design, code, and branding.

2. Account Usage & Responsibilities

  • Security: You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials (via your Google login) and for all activities under your account.
  • Acceptable Use: You may not use our service to construct automated scraping bots, reverse engineer our platform, or abuse our API endpoints. Rate limits are enforced on all accounts.
  • Termination: We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time, without notice, for conduct that violates these Terms or is harmful to other users or our business interests.

3. Subscriptions, Payments & Refunds

  • Billing: Premium features (Grasp Pro and Grasp Ultra) are billed on a recurring monthly or annual basis. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your selected payment method.
  • Payment Processing: All payments are processed securely through our third-party payment processor, Stripe. We do not store your full credit card details on our servers. Your use of the payment processing service is also subject to Stripe's Terms of Service.
  • Cancellations: You may cancel your subscription at any time via your account dashboard. Your premium access will remain active until the end of your current billing period.
  • Refunds: All charges are non-refundable. We do not provide refunds or credits for partial months of service, downgrades, or unused time.
  • Statutory 14-Day Cancellation Waiver: Under the UK Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, you generally have a statutory 14-day right to cancel digital service contracts (the "cooling-off period"). However, when subscribing to premium features (Grasp Pro or Grasp Ultra), you explicitly request the immediate supply and performance of the digital service. By upgrading, paying for, and accessing these premium features immediately, you acknowledge and expressly consent that you waive and lose your statutory 14-day right to cancel this contract.

4. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Grasp News and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses resulting from your access to or use of our service.

Privacy Policy

We believe in strict data minimization. We only collect the data necessary to provide and improve our service.

1. Information We Collect

  • Account Data: When you sign in via Google Auth, we receive your name, email address, and a unique Google ID. Your Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is encrypted at rest using AES-GCM before being stored in our database.
  • Usage Data: We store the URLs of the RSS feeds you subscribe to, your saved articles, and your reading preferences to provide you with a personalized experience.
  • Cookies & Local Storage: We use essential cookies and local storage mechanisms strictly for maintaining your authenticated session and saving UI preferences (like dark mode).

2. Lawful Bases for Processing

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), we rely on the following lawful bases to process your personal data:

  • Performance of a Contract: We process your account creation data (name, email address, Google ID), dashboard preferences, and feed logs on this basis to provide the Grasp News service to you in accordance with our Terms of Service.
  • Legal Obligation & Performance of a Contract: We process financial transactions and billing information on these bases to fulfill our contract with you (managing subscriptions) and to comply with statutory legal and tax retention requirements in the United Kingdom.

3. Third-Party Data Processors (Sub-processors)

We do not track you across the web, nor do we sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third-party data brokers. To operate Grasp News, we engage the following trusted third-party sub-processors to process personal data on our behalf, in compliance with UK GDPR requirements:

  • Stripe: Stripe processes your payment details and billing information for payment compliance. We do not store your full card details on our servers.
  • Cloudflare: Cloudflare provides our application and database serverless infrastructure, hosting, and secure authentication services.

4. Data Security & Retention

  • Security Measures: We implement industry-standard security practices, including encryption at rest for sensitive PII and secure HTTPS connections for all data in transit.
  • Data Retention: We retain your data only for as long as your account is active. If you choose to delete your account, your personal data and feed subscriptions are permanently purged from our active databases.

5. Your Data Rights & Contact Information

Under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, you possess key rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of Access (Subject Access Request): You have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten"): You have the right to request that we delete or remove your personal data from our systems. Note that you can also delete your account and associated feed data directly from your account dashboard.
  • Right to Rectification, Restriction, and Objection: You have the right to ask us to correct inaccurate data, restrict processing, or object to processing.

To submit a Subject Access Request (SAR) or request data erasure, please contact us via our Contact Page. We will respond to all valid requests within one calendar month of receipt.

If you are dissatisfied with how we handle your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK supervisory authority, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
