• The One UI 9 update reduces the total allowed attempts before a lockdown and strictly enforces temporary input restrictions, with the lockout duration scaling up progressively after each stage of consecutive failures.
• If a user enters 13 failed attempts of their PIN, pattern, or password, their Galaxy device will be permanently locked and can only be unlocked by performing a factory reset.
• Devices will notify users of the remaining retry attempts and provide explicit guidance text when there are repetitive incorrect entries, and entering the same incorrect password twice in a row will only count as a single failure.
• Even if users unlock their Galaxy device with their face or fingerprint, they will still be required to enter their backup PIN, pattern, or password every 72 hours, as per Android's core security policy.
• To mitigate issues associated with a factory reset, users are advised to keep their important information backed up using regular cloud or Samsung Smart Switch backups and have their Samsung or Google account information readily available to authenticate and clear the Factory Reset Protection (FRP) lock.
